This is a simple twist from the classic cocktail Bee’s Knee. A classic cocktail during the prohibition era. The phrase bee’s knee was a slang during the prohibition for “The Best”.
The cocktail has 3 ingredients; gin, lemon juice, and honey. With the taste of the bathtub gin at that time, lemon and honey helped the gin to be more drinkable.
In my personal twist, everything is still there; gin, lemon juice, and honey.
However, I chose Nouaison gin from Maison Villevert in place of regular London Dry gin. Nouaison is a perfect gin to enhance the classic cocktail, slightly elevated, yet still, keep the spirit of the classic. I do not want to change much from the original, just add a little spice and roasted element as an extra layer into the cocktail.
The inspiration came from a few months ago during my visit to one of my favorite bars. Their bartender, and good friend of mine, has a passion for all things caffeinated and made me a coffee cocktail.
He made a pour-over coffee, but instead of water, he used a negroni. It was very impressive. The aroma and the flavour was added in the cocktail nicely.
So, I want to incorporate and experiment this technique into my drink as well.
