NATIVE - Why We Love It
NATIVE, a cocktail bar founded and run by Vijay Mudaliar is a cocktail bar that focuses on local produce and foraging. The one-of-a-kind bar promotes regional spirits such as Thailand's Chalong Bay rum, Sri Lanka's Ceylon Arrack, and India's Urut Whisky. Even their handcrafted ceramics and one-of-a-kind martini vessels are acquired locally. NATIVE's passion for Singaporean craftsmanship extends to a graffiti artwork by Singaporean artist Rajesh Kumar on its stairwell wall.
Vijay's concept was inspired by a decade in the industry: to establish a platform where local and regional communities collaborated to display what they had to offer. He gathered like-minded individuals and humbly inspired those who want to pursue the impossible.
What to Order at NATIVE
Ceylon arrack, ancient coconuts, pineapple skin, and Sri Lankan spice are used in their 'Pineapple Arrack' drink. The 'Bengal Sling' is another popular cocktail. Stranger & Sons Gin, Gondhoraj Distalite, Jamun, and wildflower honey are blended together. You are not alone if you are perplexed by some of the ingredient names. Thankfully, Vijay's team is incredibly attentive and eager to educate you about each and every one of them.
