Opium Bangkok - Why We Love It

At the heart of Bangkok's China Town, Opmbkk is situated in a historic building on the fourth and fifth floors above Chef Pam Pitchaya Utarntham's Thai-Chinese restaurant Potong.

In what was once an opium den, this progressive cocktail experience is ideal for those looking for a classic mixed drink before a meal as well as for gourmets seeking experimental and modern cocktails.
The bar excels in research and development under the guidance of creative director Arnon Hoontrakula and head bartender Matteo Cadeddu to create a menu of exceptionally fine creations.

If visiting Restaurant POTONG, buy yourself some time to visit upstairs for the apéritif menu. We recommend Sexe dans la Ville, a drink with gentian, cinchona, citrus zests, rose petals notes from Cocchi Rosa, and a citrus punch from lemon juice. Adernis is dry Fino Sherry and Cocchi Rosa if you prefer a more spirit-forward apéritif cocktail.

Twists on classic cocktails feature prominently throughout the menu. The Martini is redeveloped into two creations. First, The Iron Lady consisting of gin, maraschino liqueur, dry vermouth and bitters served in a rock glass with seaweed as garnish. Second, Mr Yod. An all-spiced high-proof vodka, coffee amaro and Spanish liqueur.
If you wonder if Opium Bar serves food, the answer is yes! It's one of the bars' advantages. The foods come straight from POTONG's kitchen, so it won't disappoint.

The Wild Kiss is a tender pork tongue skewer with plum, and Szechuan pepper served with pineapple vinegar for some foreplay.

The second dish that we would like to recommend is Iberico Luó Bo Gāo, a pan-fried crispy turnip cake topped with Iberico ham.

Finally, Liáng Miàn, a cold Cappellini topped with Chinese tahini, homemade chilli paste and garlic pork cracklings.
From the bar side of this now gastronomic center, we see great things coming, and we eagerly anticipate future developments!
