San Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Competition Opens for Entries
The San Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Competition is now open, seeking to discover and nurture the best young culinary talent worldwide. Open to chefs aged 18-30, this prestigious competition provides a platform for young chefs to showcase their skills, gain recognition, and advance their professional careers.
Spotlight on Previous Winner
In the Asia Regional Competition 2022-2023, Chef Ian Goh from Singapore emerged victorious and went on to compete in the Grand Finale in Milan. Held at the Park Hyatt Bangkok on October 31, the event featured 10 talented chefs from Singapore, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, the Philippines, and Thailand.
Under the guidance of individual mentors, they presented their dishes to a prestigious panel of judges, including Chef Pichaya “Pam” Utharntharm, Chef Thitid “Ton” Tassanakajohn, Chef Dave Pynt, Chef Daniel Calvert, and Chef Vanessa Huang.
Competition Overview:
Phase 1: Online Registration
Chefs must submit their signature dish recipe, which will remain the same throughout the competition.
Phase 2: Regional Shortlist
A judging panel from ALMA, an esteemed international training center for Italian cuisine, will shortlist candidates from each region based on three criteria:
Technical Skills – Evaluating raw material selection, processing, cooking techniques, and recipe balance.
Creativity – Assessing the chef’s unique culinary philosophy and innovative approach.
Personal Belief – Communicating the chef’s vision and identity through their dish.
Phase 3: Regional Finals
Shortlisted chefs will compete in their regions, judged by local renowned chefs. The highest-scoring chef will be named the “Regional Finalist” and move on to the Grand Finale in Milan.
Additionally, three special awards will be given:
San Pellegrino Social Responsibility Award – For the dish best reflecting socially responsible practices.
Fine Dining Lovers Food for Thought Award – For the dish best representing the chef’s personal beliefs.
Acqua Panna Connection in Gastronomy Award – For the dish showcasing regional culinary heritage with a modern twist.
Phase 4: Grand Finale
The 15 Regional Finalists will compete in Milan, judged by a panel of seven internationally renowned chefs. The overall winner will receive the San Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Award 2024-25.
The special awards will also be presented during the Grand Finale.
