Best known by the mononym “Milli”, rapper Danupha Khanatheerakul first catapulted herself into stardom at the age of 17 with the single “Phak Kon”, which went viral for its speedy, sassy lyrics and use of Thai regional dialects as well as English. She followed that up with another hit in the same year, “Sud Pang”, which upped the ante with even more dialects as well as foreign languages like Japanese.
Perhaps what has made Milli not just a household name but an international superstar, however, was becoming the first Thai solo artist to perform at Coachella. Rapping about corruption and mango sticky rice on one of the world’s biggest stages, Milli has put herself on the radar of the government in more ways than one.
Now 20, Milli shares with Gastronomer Lifestyle some of her favourite foods and dining and drinking spots around Bangkok. If you want to be sud pang (super cool) like Milli, here’s where to start.
Perfecto Café. This place is very near my university, and I love their Biscoff cake.
Boiled oats with milk for breakfast.
Toi Tam Sang. A local boiled rice restaurant that’s open at night and offers many delicious side dishes, it’s the best place to get food with my date after a drink at OFTR.
Phlu Market So many authentic local foods, desserts, and herbal drinks.
Anywhere in Thailand.
Vietnamese
Alice’s Dance at OFTR Bar It’s fresh, sour, and sweet, like me.
