IN PARTNERSHIP WITH WALDORF ASTORIA BANGKOK
October 12, 2023
Following the success of the inaugural #ArtistsAtTheLoft collaboration between artists and Waldorf Astoria Bangkok mixologists, last month the hotel initiated an exciting second edition with professor artists and students of Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University’s Faculty of Fine Arts. The art majors and The Loft team worked together to come up with a brand new cocktail menu infused with plenty of creativity and story. The 13 cocktails on the menu each represent an artistic technique one would encounter in a fine arts programme, such as collage or acrylics, as well as a Waldorf Astoria refined touch.
Speaking about the series, the hotel’s beverage manager Michele Montauti points out the natural pairing between artists and bartenders. “In the world of mixology, cocktails are our canvas, and we are the artist. At The Loft, we believe that every drink is a masterpiece waiting to be created.” Expressing his gratitude towards his collaborators for openly sharing their artistic visions, he adds, “We have eagerly transformed these intricate ideas into reality and cannot wait to share these exciting creations with our guests.”
These extra-special artistic cocktails await at The Loft at Waldorf Astoria Bangkok today, but before you make your plans, here is just a small taste of the creations to be expected.
The Magnolias: A rum-based concoction highlighting homemade goji berry-infused pisco, guava, lime, and walnut and sesame syrup, this cocktail embodies the technique of acrylic art whilst also capturing the swanky ambience of The Loft.
Cha Thai: Another rum-based cocktail, Cha Thai is a celebration of Thai flavours that features domestic rum, Thai tea-infused vermouth, kaffir lime and tamarind syrup, lime juice, and jasmine rice foam. An associated artwork draws inspiration from the spray art technique.
Just Drop It: A whiskey drink crafted with saffron-infused Lillet Blanc, aloe vera, citrus, lotus and tamarind syrup, and Perrier, this creation highlights a technique used by both bartenders and artists alike: oil dropping.
Midnight Mosaic: A spirits-forward cocktail, this tipple combines bourbon, coffee, orange liqueur, vermouth, roasted barley syrup, and Perrier for a mosaic of flavours, which together makes one unified, bold statement.
